Re: scythe or sickle mower

We found our scythe and sickle at a second hand store.  An antique store may have one although, the price may be higher.  Check in Bargain finder - you may get lucky there.  Farm auction may also be a place to look.

Re: scythe or sickle mower

If you are talking about a hand scythe, I have one here that was used once.  I'm not sure where it came from but it was new.  It was given to me when I moved to my acreage.  You can have it for $25.00 if you have a way to get it.

Starting with Blue, Black, and Splash Ameraucanas and Red Cuckoo Basque (Marraduna).

Re: scythe or sickle mower

I saw the one at Lee Valley. It is nice!
Thanks guys, I'll just keep looking around locally.
Ihave never been to Regina, and a road trip that far is just not an option, thanks for the offer though!

I have one from Lee Valley.  If you are up this way I am sure we could work out a sale or trade.

Re: scythe or sickle mower

How much area do do need to clear?   I have used a weed wacker with a metal cutting wheel instead of plastic line and it even works on small trees.   You can also rent similar units at the bigger rental shops.

Looking for Legbar hatching eggs and rooster, and rosecomb brown leghorn hatching eggs and rooster.

So do I.  I have not used the scythe in ages.

Re: scythe or sickle mower

Just let me know if you are coming this way, Lynn!  I will figure out a good price.  It is just sitting in the barn.  It needs a little sharpening tho.

Re: scythe or sickle mower

Well, looks like I was too slow on that one! LOL! I have about 3 acres to do, and it's too long for the weed whacker. Once it hits a certain length, you spend more time unwinding the grass than cutting. There's a healthy amount of sage mixed in that I also want cut, so if I have to do it by hand I will.
Thanks  though ladies!

Re: scythe or sickle mower

Get Root's metal cutting wheel.  It is way better and faster than a scythe.  And if you want the scythe I still have it!
