Hello! (Langley, BC)

Hi everyone!

New here and just wanted to say hi! I stumbled upon this forum while googling for a solution to poultry lice in some newly acquired chickens. Turns out that lice is only the start of my troubles with them...dropping a bird off at the lab tomorrow to find out what is really going on :( . So stressful and SO not the way I had hoped my start in chickens would go. The only positive I can see right now is that at the end of all of this I'll have climbed a steep learning curve very quickly and my birds and I will be better for it in the future.

My husband and I are new 'homesteaders' in south Langley where we moved about 7 months ago and we have a toddler and a 6 month old. I have raised show rabbits for years but am fairly new to chicken keeping. I am very glad that I found this forum as there is a wealth of knowledge here and this community reminds me of the pre-facebook web forums that I used to be involved with years ago ("RabbitWeb" anyone?).

I've been lurking for a while now, to research and to learn. To that end, I'll probably be keeping fairly quiet for a long long time, as I have much to learn ;).

Re: Hello! (Langley, BC)

Nice introduction BlueSatin, and welcome to our forum, from the north Okanagan of BC, northeast of Enderby.  There will be tons of things that you will be learning, and yes, on a chicken forum, especially one such as ACE here, you have so much information at your grasp, from so many people that have done this, that and the other thing.  Lice are pretty easy to get rid of, you will find that out.  I would stick to dusting powder personally, until you can get things in order.  Then if you choose, other methods of prevention or whatever you like to do.  Have a beautiful day, CynthiaM.

PEOPLE WHO COUNT THEIR CHICKENS BEFORE THEY HATCH ARE VERY WISE, FOR CHICKENS RUN ABOUT SO ABSURDLY THAT YOU CAN'T COUNT THEM OTHERWISE. smile :D
