Killdeer babies

A pair of killdeers hatched four chicks this week.  They nested in almost the same spot as a pair did last year.  She laid her eggs on the same dates, and they hatched the same days as last year.  I have no way of knowing if they are the same birds, but I found this interesting.  Last year there were two hatches.  I'll watch to see if they raise another clutch.  As soon as the fourth chick hatched they took them out of my yard into the long grass.  Good thing - we've been having disgustingly strong winds for the last week or so.

 Killdeer are some of my favorites. They remind me of my childhood. I was always fascinated by them.

Re: Killdeer babies

That's very interesting.  I like Killdeer.  Their "run" is comical and I like their call.
