Just at a glance

I didn't see Dominiques in your American category.

I'll try and have a better look later.

Re: Project - Rare and Disappearing Breeds of Chickens

Thanks.  I had added them to the British category but I had better put them in the American as well. They are one of a couple breeds whose origins are disputed amongst poultry fanciers.

Wow, that's quite the list.  Only thing I can think of is addition of Derbyshire to the name Redcaps in the British birds.  Corals is a good name for them with that comb.  Those things can run and greedy.....!

Re: Project - Rare and Disappearing Breeds of Chickens

Where would Cornish or Indian games be?  I couldn't see under British, Indian or American.  Do they count as rare enough for your list? Some are rarer then others I suppose.

Re: Project - Rare and Disappearing Breeds of Chickens

Are you coordinating the various different rare breed lists.  The White Wyandotte is listed by Rare Breeds of Canada, but is not on your list here.  I've actually had trouble finding breeders of this breed at least in Western Canada

Rosewood Farm, breeder of Highland Cattle.
Breeder of Black and Blue Cochins, White Chanteclers, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and Gold Laced Wyandottes for 2014.

Re: Project - Rare and Disappearing Breeds of Chickens

What I am trying to do is if there are multiple varieties of a breed varieties of a breed, I will list it if the majority of varieties are rare or disappearing.

I'm going to re-check the status of Cornish, Indian Games and Wyandottes.  Thanks for the suggestions.=)

I believe the American Conservatory lists many of the other breeds of Wyandottes as being rare or endanagered.

Dominiques British?  That's a new one on me. Lewis Wright wrote of them being American in the 1872.

Re: Project - Rare and Disappearing Breeds of Chickens

Rare Breeds Canada list is not a credible list for two reasons.

1) They have not done a thorough census of the breed in Canada and therefore are only "guessing".

2) Their criteria of defining what should be included is convoluted and doesn't seem to follow reasonable logic.

Google "World Watch List" and it will give you an indepth look at the heritage breeds from a global perspective. Oh just ignore the Canadian submission, it's a national embarrasment.
