Mark Twain

Been a long time since I read anything from mark twain. Thought that huck finn and tom sawyer were two books that any reluctant reader would think was worth the bother. Loved them both as a lad

anyways, stumbled across this essay, has a surprise ending too

The War Prayer

By Mark Twain

O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst,

Then the actual essay, only a couple of pages long http://www.informationclearinghouse.inf … e17801.htm

Re: Mark Twain

What a powerful essay.
I find myself agreeing with his sentiments.
I want to say more, but find myself unable to formulate the proper words.

Me Hubby, daughter 2 1/2, son 14 days, 2 Tahltan Bear dogs, 2cats? Rode Island Red, Lohman, Astralorp and Americana cross chickens. Muscovy ducks, Touluse and Emdem geese.   5 horses, all of which hubby is training to drive. And one Tamworth/Large Black sow, assorted pigs of various ages. Two jersey cows.

Can't wait to get into rare and heritage breed livestock to go with our draft horses.
