Broody #6

I'm almost losing track. I've switched from incubators to broodies. They do a better job than I do. This is Broody #6. She hatched 4 chicks a couple days ago. She actually had 5 but 1 was squashed somehow. She started with 8 eggs but a turkey hen who has a nest nearby kept insisting on getting in this hen's nest and being Bigfoot broke 3 eggs over the course of the incubation.

Re: Broody #6

These chicks with the black and white broody https://s19.postimg.org/nw7tthfk3/IMG_5834.jpg
are only about 3 weeks old and are pretty much totally on their own. I was checking everyone this morning and the hen was scratching around the house by herself which concerned me so I went looking for the chicks and they were outside together under a tree happily pecking and running around.

By contrast this hen https://s19.postimg.org/6cs2cqfib/IMG_5770.jpg whose chicks are 7 weeks old hardly lets them out of her sight.

Re: Broody #6

Your hens and chicks are so pretty, I'm not surprised at all that you hatch so many!
