Spring is blooming

We have a bunch of fruit trees and bushes in full bloom right now. More than I've seen in years.

Beautiful.  You may just need to get some bee hives.  They would love it there.  Hint*Hint

Re: Spring is blooming

Our fruit trees are starting to bloom out now.  The honey bees are having a great time around here.  With the dandelions also blooming, watching where you walk is necessary.

Re: Spring is blooming

Do you get pears off of the Golden Spice Pear tree? I was looking at pear trees last week at a local nursery wondering if they'd produce something edible or not.

Buff Orpingtons, Lavender Orpington, Barred Plymouth Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, and a few mixies.

We are so far behind you... just a few aspen leaves unfolding.  Look forward to flowering...

Re: Spring is blooming

You need 2 pears or at least the golden spice and a pollinator. We have a John which is totally inedible. The Golden Spice will produce small pears about 4" long which are rock hard. I think you can cook them. I've tried picking them and letting them ripen but they are still  hard so I generally feed them to the chickens which peck them apart.

The CPR ran an experimental farm in Strathmore in the early 1900s. They used it to prove to settlers that stuff would grow here. As far as I can tell it used to be just south of the highway between the Esso and Canadian Tire if you know the town.  In the back there used to be some huge pear trees left over from the farm that would be covered with blossoms in the spring and loads of small pears in the fall.  I don't know what kind but they are certainly hardy here. I haven't been around to check for a few years and don't know if they have given way to progress or not.

Re: Spring is blooming

Dandelions are out in full force.  The flowering crabapple and golden currants are blooming.  Not much else yet.  There were two frosts in the last few weeks that froze some of the new leaves.

Starting with Blue, Black, and Splash Ameraucanas and Red Cuckoo Basque (Marraduna).

Re: Spring is blooming

We've had a few very hot and humid days.  Now back to cool, boarding cold with rain.  Fruiting trees are all in blossom, as are the dandelions.  Bees seem to be busy working the flowers.  I'm grateful for that.

Re: Spring is blooming

Our dogs are such piggies, nothing else is getting their food.  whizzle     Our weather looks like it's "finally" going to stay nice for awhile.

This sun is so nice.   Creek still running like crazy, but going down.     Hopefully good for our garage sale.   Been waiting forever it seems like.
