Peanuts for Chickens

I unfortunately slipped and dropped my Glosette Chocolate coated peanuts in the dirt,  right where there's a lot of chicken activity so I decided it would be prudent not to pick them up and eat them, so I left them in the grass :tantrum:   The chickens went nuts for them. Is there any reason chickens can't have peanuts? Seems like they could be a nutritious treat?

Re: Peanuts for Chickens

Hmmm, good question.  My chickens have had peanuts on many occasions and we've never had issue.  I think the bigger concern would be the chocolate, then again, that coating can hardly be considered real chocolate.

We actually buy them and feed them to the pigeons as a treat and to get them into the loft.  No adverse effect ever.

Re: Peanuts for Chickens

Thanks MGF. Actually the chickens weren't that fond of the chocolaty bits, when they broke them off the peanuts they just left them in the grass

Re: Peanuts for Chickens

I'm relieved to hear they aren't fond of chocolate. More for me. They can have all my peanuts.

My chickens will eat anything. Anything. Except M&Ms. Or Smarties. I think it's a colour thing. Prejudice.
