free anti virus?

Have been using Norton and they charge me $100 a year to renew. Which I think is too much Considering that I can buy it at Staples on sale for half that.

Does anyone use a free antivirus program and how good is it?

Re: free anti virus?

I use Avast, free to download, plus Malware Bites, also free. They work well. I upgraded at one time to paid versions of these but the results were no better than the free versions. They don't seem to slow the computer much, either.

Re: free anti virus?

We use AVG - the free version.  Seems to work well for us.

I use Kaspersky on my android tablet, I think the Russians know a thing or two about hacking and I use Bitdefender on my windows pc.

Bitdefender and Avast usually rate the highest.

AV-Comparatives is a non profit that tests antivirus software.  They have lots of test data on their website. https://www.av-comparatives.org

I use free version of AVG. Works for me.

Don't think I have much the Russians want from me except my Canadian chickens.

Re: free anti virus?

The only thing I dislike about Avast is the nag ware- but it seems to be a bit better lately. The last version was more intrusive with pop ups.  But I can't really complain, after all the thing is free and seems to do it's job. It did allow some spyware, so Uno download Malware bites too to get that extra protection.
