Our New Puppy. :(

Our Old Pom finally couldn't go on anymore. she was 14 yrs old, and her at least 10 year old rescue, the poo-zu x  was not doing well either.  Had cancer.

So both our Girls Crossed the Bridge Aug. 31st 2017.   We buried them here.    It was such an awful day.

But we had spoken for a Scotch collie New Zealand Collie cross.  Unfortunately they could only meet us the same day our girls were to be put down.   She was to be a

Birthday present for me.   That day was "not" exciting though, knowing we had to take our girls to the vet that afternoon.

The puppy was such a sweet girl, and her and our grandson's dog played out in the yard until they were exhausted!    They had race tracks around my husbands

trucks and a tarp shed.  The puppy was 5 months old, when we got her.     Got all her shots, micro-chipped, rabies etc.

Then when she was getting her next set of shots, the vet suggested we spay her.  I really didn't want to at the time.  She just didn't seem mature mentally to me.

But my husband was going to take her to puppy classes and talked me into the spay.    He took her to the vet's, I did not go.  But I had a very bad feeling ALL day.

She had to come home that night, as they had no one to watch her overnight, or anyone on for the weekend.     She sent her home with anti-biotics, but NO pain

pills???  We ended up giving her childrens gravol to help her sleep.   Little did we know how much we would use!   The second day, she should have been feeling

better, but she couldn't keep anything down.  Vet had opened her up twice as she was bleeding, then regurgitated while she was under.    They gave her all sorts of

pills to try, she couldn't keep any of them down.  Finally the vet said he wanted to open her up again, he was determined she had swallowed something.   We said

NO she had been through enough.  So he tried barium x rays, and found nothing.   Finally we were literally hand feeding her.   Our friends told us to take her to

now OUR vet in Vernon.   She was awesome, but said she had not swallowed anything.  The pup loved that vet, was terrified of the others, she never went back to

them.  We even took her to a specialist, she wanted to try treatment right then, at $1,500 a treatment once a week for 4-6 weeks.   We told her we could not

afford that.   Then she said well if we give her the dog then and there, she would try and find someone that could afford it.  We said NO, the breeders were

promised if she ever needed re-homing, they would take her back.   But we knew they couldn't afford that either.  So home she came and just couldn't swallow

hardly any thing.  Not even a small lump of dog food.    WE fed her literally almost every 15 minutes-to half an hour.  Finally she was so thin we went back to our

Vernon Vet and what was a perfectly healthy dog when she went in for a spay, was now DEAD.   We took our Grandson's dog with, so she could understand she was

gone.  She sniffed all around when we got home, then didn't look anymore.     We ended up doing something we would normally never do, but we had a autopsy

done on her.  The vet called us and said she wished she could have found something, but didn't.  Had another vet check her over too, nothing???  Only thing we can

think of, is they gave her the wrong meds for a collie, when putting her out for the spay.   After a LOT of hassles we did get ALL our money back from the vets that

spayed her, plus the other vet's costs.  But because we were going to sue them, we had to sign a form saying we would not say anything about them or there clinic.

But we are still a mess from losing her march 28th 2018.     It is very hard to look at other dogs, after losing ALL 3 girls.    Thankfully our grandson's dog is here,

because we really miss our dogs, and it would be terribly lonely here.    So this past fall and spring have been pretty awful for us.    We sure miss our girls.   :(

What should have been a really happy time, sure is not.   Now we are almost afraid to get another dog.   Plus they are so expensive, we can't now.    Someone

gave us an old mexican rescue dog, but she's too old to play with the other dog, at least she has a good kind home, now   She has a big white ring around her neck

from a collar digging into her neck, plus must have had multiple litters.  But it's just not the same, no coming on the run for love, or playing with us or the

grandson's dog.   Loves to eat and sleep.   We love her, but it's just not the same......:crying:

:crying: What a horrible story.  I have a friend on disability and she says the same thing...that she cannot afford a dog now.

That's awful.   :crying:  Very traumatic.  I know what you mean.  Vet bills have gotten crazy here too.  I am currently in debt for the vet bills from my dog that died in April, and have to take my male dog to the vet now because I suspect he has something serious going on.
